You'd love it, i'm sure! Do you know Matt? He's become a good friend from hanging out there so much the past few years. If not i'm happy to intro you two!
Memphis was my first solo road trip when I was 21. Without a map or GPS I somehow navigated myself there from Columbia, MO. It was a wonderland of musical ghosts. It’s changed since the. (1994) but the beautiful ghosts remain.
Going around that curve and getting the first glimpse of the bridge is still one of my favorite road trip moments, even now that I know to expect it. I’m based in Belleville, IL, and finally took highway 61 the last time I went to Memphis. Highly recommended!
In 1989, over Thanksgiving, we did a Memphis pilgrimage to Sun Studios, Graceland & The Lorraine Motel. We stayed with good friends, who told us about The Peabody Ducks. We took our 18 month old son to watch them march off the elevator and of course took Photographs! with a Disc camera of all things.
As a University of Memphis graduate - I am so happy you found it and love it. It’s a city with an old soul for sure. Glad you appreciate it - not everyone gets it!
Sounds fabulous. So many good songs about Memphis - Tom T Hall’s ‘That’s How I Got To Memphis’ is my favourite.
one of the best! I'm sure you'd love it, Lo, have you ever been to Memphis?
No! But its on my dream list for sure. I'd love to go and record with Matt Ross Spang there someday.

I'd love that! I'm just a firm admirer, loved watching what he did with Sun and now Southern Grooves. Reading your stories is making me miss America!

I love that drive, through Arkansas and then seeing the city pop up on the horizon. Probably an even better feeling with no GPS.
