2. In September 2019 I finally played a show in Memphis. It was in a small theater that lived inside of an old Sears distribution center that had recently been reactivated by the city and local arts groups as the Crosstown Concourse. Here, inside this one million square foot building, a siren began to sound inside me. It was a siren that, though a different tone, had gone off inside of me when I was 18 and discovered New York City for the first time, and then again when I was 25 and discovered Porto, Portugal - my favorite city in all of Europe. That siren doesn't often sound but when it does it’s as loud as a tornado warning, and with a similar signal: stay here, seek shelter. Though this siren is not a warning of some impending catastrophe, but an announcement of the basic components of shelter — of comfort and love.

When your soul truly connects to a place it’s unlike anything else.
Beautifully written!
From Saint Louis we visit Memphis often and I am also quite taken with it. NYC, of course, has a special place in my heart. But I just booked a trip to Porto. What do you love about it most?
